PERSONAL INFORMATION
RICHARD CUNNINGHAM  

Born January 15, 1947 at McKeesport, Pennsylvania, he is now 61 years old. Moved to Wayne County (Belleville) Michigan in 1961, when a plant closing forced his father, an hourly worker at Kelsey-Hayes, to relocate the family. Graduated from Belleville High School, Belleville, Michigan in June 1964.

Worked full-time at several different auto-industry plants (Ford Motor Company, Motor Wheel Corporation) while attending college part-time. Holds a UAW withdrawal card. Returned to college after discharge from the U.S. Army, and graduated from Eastern Michigan University in December 1971.

Attended University of Detroit, School of Law, while working full-time with the Veterans Administration. Graduated in 1978.

 

Married Linda Lopez (nee Young), a widow with a one small child (Melissa Lopez), on October 1, 1976. Linda, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, is a licensed Michigan Social Worker who substitute teaches in the Grosse Pointe School District. She served for eight years as a member of the Michigan Board of Social Work Examiners, and chaired that Board for six years. Melissa Lopez Pope currently serves as Director of Victim Services for Triangle Foundation, and is active in various American Indian organizations.

Richard and Linda Cunningham reside on the east side of Detroit with their four rescued dogs. They have lived in the same house since June 1977.

    

CUJO is a 20 lb DandieDinmont/Terrier mix who was adopted from the City of Detroit Pound in March 2002. He sees himself as a 100 lb Rottweiler
 
ANNIE is a mixed breed spaniel who was adopted from Michigan Anti-Cruelty Society in May 1994. She is the "Boss" of the house.

   

SPOT was rescued from the streets in May 2007. She is an extremely active and curious dog, who can be described only as a mutt
 
DAWG is Spot's best friend. The 100+ pound Black Lab came to live with the Cunninghams in Sept 2007, after his former owner moved to an apartment.
