Each year, Michigan Lawyers Weekly selects 10 Michigan attorneys who stood out from the crowd — by winning important cases, being involved in matters that raise challenging legal issues and otherwise furthering the profession's commitment to the rule of law and concept of justice. Richard Cunningham was selected by this legal publication as one of the ten "Lawyers Of The Year" for 2000.

PARENTS OF MURDERED CHILDREN
"JUDICIAL ACTION AWARD - 1994"
Parents of Murdered Children, Inc. is a national organization which supports survivors of homicide victims. The goals and achievements of this organization were discussed and examined in a cover story of the September 1997 issue of the Atlantic Monthly. In his story, "A Grief Like No Other," contributing editor Eric Schlosser presented a picture of this group that no one hopes to join.
The Metro Detroit Chapter of Parents of Murdered Children periodically recognizes those members of the judiciary who display patience, understanding and fairness to crime victims when they undergo the trauma of a criminal proceeding. In October 1994, at its annual "Love For Life" benefit dinner, the chapter presented Richard Cunningham with this award, for his exemplary service as a Recorder's Court Judge.
